Milo Hehmsoth Bio:
Born in Austin, TX, Milo Hehmsoth is an emerging voice in the jazz scene as a pianist, composer, and dedicated educator. Performing with his trio across Austin and the surrounding regions, Milo has carved out his place as an artist rooted in the traditions of jazz while pushing forward with a fresh perspective. His dynamic performances include stints as the house pianist for the Tuesday Jazz Jam with Jacob Wise, as well as collaborations with notable groups like Centerpeace and The Fellowship led by Josh Alderete.
Milo recently expanded his artistic horizons with a transformative trip to New York City, where he studied with some of the jazz world's finest, including Eden Ladin, Michael Kanan, and Grant Stewart. This experience deeply influenced his approach, infusing his music with new energy and ideas.
For this performance, Milo’s trio—featuring Billy Satterwhite on bass and Israel Yanez on drums—brings together the inspiration from his journey and his vision for the future of jazz. Expect a performance that reflects the echoes of his recent travels while showcasing a sound distinctly his own.
Israel Yanez Bio:
Israel Yanez earned a Bachelor of Music Performance with an emphasis in Jazz Studies from Texas State University, where he studied under renowned musicians Butch Miles of the Count Basie Orchestra and Auther Latin of the Harry Connick Jr. Band. He discovered jazz at a young age, leading to a lifelong passion for the genre. Over his career, Israel has collaborated with prominent jazz artists such as Terell Stafford, Dayna Stephens, Bob Mintzer, and Chad LB, and has toured with blues artist Ally Venable. He frequently performs at various festivals and iconic venues in Austin, including the Elephant Room, Parker Jazz Club, and Monks Jazz, and has participated in notable events like the Midwest Clinic and JazzSAlive.
Billy Satterwhite Bio:
Billy Satterwhite is regarded as one of the top call double bassists for Jazz and Improvised music in Central Texas. Born and raised in Houston, he found a love for the Double Bass late in his teenage years, and quickly dove headfirst into Jazz and Classical music. He studied Jazz and Improvisation at Texas State University and the University of Michigan, where he studied with legendary Detroit bassist Robert Hurst and the late great pianist Geri Allen. He arrived in Austin in 2012, establishing his roots in the local music scene. In addition to performing, Billy is passionate about teaching, and as one of the few Suzuki Method trained double bass instructors in Texas, he has helped students from ages 5 to 50+ find joy in playing the bass.
